Sabalenka to Face Swiatek in 2025 French Open Semifinal
Tuesday’s Results from Roland Garros
Tuesday’s action at the French Open saw top seed Aryna Sabalenka reach the semifinals of the year’s second Major, defeating Qinwen Zheng 7-6(3), 6-3.
Needing one hour and 57 minutes to complete her victory, Sabalenka hit six aces, won 60 percent of her first serve points and broke her Chinese opponent on four occasions.
Improving to 7-1 against Zheng in lifetime meetings, Sabalenka will next face four-time winner and defending champion Iga Swiatek in the semifinals.
The Polish star scored a comfortable 6-1, 7-5 victory over No. 13 seed Elina Svitolina from Ukraine.
Swiatek currently leads the pair’s head-to-head 8-4. The No. 5 seed has not won an event since capturing the 2024 French Open crown.
On Wednesday, No. 2 seed Coco Gauff will take on fellow American and No. 7 seed Madison Keys in a six career meeting. Keys leads Gauff 3-2 in career encounters, and has won the last two matches against the former US Open champion.
Keys, who captured the Australian Open this year, is the only player in the draw that could still win the Calendar year Grand Slam if she can triumph in Paris.
The day’s second semifinal will see No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva take on Lois Boisson from France.
Ranked No. 361 in the world, Boisson ousted No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula in the fourth-round.
Andreeva will be the heavy favourite as she enters that encounter.
