Needing two hours and nine to advance, Alcaraz used his dynamic skill set to produce five aces, 41 winners, and break serve on eight occasions.

The 22-year-old, who is in search of his fifth Grand Slam, will next face No. 31 seed Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard or Damir Dzumhur from Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Other winners on the day saw No. 8  seed Lorenzo Musetti, No. 13 seed Ben Shelton, No. 25 seed Alexei Popyrin and Hamad Medjedovic from Serbia all advancing.

No. 10 seed Holger Rune and No. 20 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas will be in action later today.

Two-time former finalist No. 7 seed Casper Ruud crashed out of the event, losing to Nuno Borges 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, 6-0. Borges takes on Popyrin next.

Top seed Jannik Sinner returns to the court on Thursday to face Richard Gasquet in his final Roland Garros.
