Monday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results
Monday’s action on a tricky day at the Madrid Open in Spain saw Italian Matteo Arnaldi reach the fourth round, defeating Damir Dzumhur 6-3, 6-4.
Following up his victory over No. 4 seed Novak Djokovic, Arnaldi will next face either No. 16 seed Frances Tiafoe or Frenchman Alexandre Muller.
Matches Cancelled Due to Power Outage
The rest of the day’s matches in Madrid have been cancelled due to widespread power outages. When play resumes, No. 15 seed Grigor Dimitrov will try to close out his match against Jacob Fearnley, leading the Brit 6-4, 5-4.
Other players that will be moved to Tuesday’s schedule will feature: No. 5 seed Tommy Paul, No. 6 seed Alex de Minaur, No. 10 Lorenzo Musetti and No. 11 seed Tommy Paul.
Tuesday’s additional schedule as of now in Madrid will be highlighted by top seed Alexandr Zverev, No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz, No. 9 seed Daniil Medvedev and No. 14 seed Casper Ruud.
Gauff, Andreeva Set Up Quarterfinal Clash
Former US Open winner Coco Gauff and Russian phenom Mirra Andreeva completed fourth round victories in Madrid on Monday.
With both players winning in straight sets, Gauff dismissed Belinda Bencic 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 23 minutes, and Andreeva dispatched Yulia Stardubsteva from Ukraine 6-1, 6-4 in one hour and 48 minutes.
Gauff currently leads Andreeva 2-0 in head-to-head meetings.
Other matches that are still on deck on Monday if play resumes will feature top seed Aryna Sabalenka, No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek and No. 5 seed Madison Keys.
