Zverev, Gauff Reach Second Round of 2025 French Open
Tuesday’s Results from Roland Garros
Reigning finalist Alexander Zverev began his 2025 campaign at the French Open in style on Tuesday, defeating Learner Tien from the United States 6-3, 6-3, 6-4.
Needing one hour and 53 minutes to advance, Zverev hit three aces, won 90 percent of his first serve points and broke his opponent on four occasions.
Adding 28 winners to his victory, Zverev will next face Jesper De Jong or Francesco Passaro from Italy.
Other results on the day saw former world No. 8 Cameron Norrie need nearly four hours to oust No. 11 seed Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 6-3, 4-6, 1-6, 7-5.
Norrie will take on Federico Gomez from Argentina in the second round. Gomez, a lucky loser, dismissed Aleksandar Kovacevic in four sets.
No. 9 seed Alex de Minuar, Alexander Bublik, Ethan Quinn, and Alexander Shevchenko all reached the second round of Tuesday.
Three-time former winner Novak Djokovic will be in action later today against American Mackenzie McDonald.
Djokovic, who recently won his 100th career title in Geneva, Switzerland on Saturday, will be aiming to win his 25th career Major in Paris.
Wednesday’s schedule of play in Paris will include No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz, No. 7 seed Casper Ruud and No. 10 seed Holger Rune.

Gauff Advances to Round of 64
Inform American and No. 2 seed Coco Gauff advanced to the second round of the French Open on Tuesday, defeating Olivia Gadecki 6-2, 6-2.
Winning 66 percent of her first serve points, Gauff hit four double faults during her victory, but managed to break serve on six occasions.
The former finalist will next face either Tereza Valentova or Chloe Paquet from France.
Other winners on the day saw No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva, No. 23 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, No. 31 seed Sofia Kenin, Nao Hibino, Anhelina Kalinina, and Victoria Azarenka all reach the second round.
Azarenka defeated Yanina Wickmayer 6-0, 6-0.
Matches that are still on deck on Tuesday will feature No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabeur and Maria Sakkari.
On Wednesday, top seed Aryna Sabalenka, No. 4 seed Jasmine Paolini and four-time winner Iga Swiatek will be in action.
