Alcaraz, Swiatek Advance to 2nd Round of 2025 French Open
Monday’s Results from Roland Garros
Monday’s action at the 2025 French Open from Paris, France saw defending champion Carlos Alcaraz race into the second round, defeating Giulio Zeppieri 6-3, 6-4, 6-2.
Needing one hour and 56 minutes to prevail, Alcaraz hit three aces, won 78 percent of his first serve points and broke his opponent on four occasions.
The 22-year-old, who owns four Major titles, will next face Fabian Marozsan for a place in round three.
Alcaraz entered Roland Garros with tournament victories in Monte Carlo and Rome. He also made the finals in Barcelona.
Alcaraz and Marozsan have split their two career meetings.
Other winners on the day included No. 7 seed Casper Ruud, No. 23 seed Sebastian Korda, No. 25 seed Alexei Popyrin, Hugo Gaston, Miomir Kecmanovic and Alejandro Tabilo.
No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz was defeated in the first round, losing to Daniel Altmaier 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Top seed Jannik Sinner will be in action later today against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech.
Tuesday’s schedule in Paris will feature three-time former winner and 24-time Major champion Novak Djokovic. The Serb recently won his 100th career title over the weekend in Geneva, Switzerland.

Swiatek Cruises into Second Round
Defending women’s champion Iga Swiatek progressed to the second round of the French Open on Monday, dismissing Rebecca Sramkova 6-3, 6-3.
Winning 70 percent of her first serve points, Swiatek hit one ace and broke serve on four occasions.
The four-time winner will next face former US Open champion Emma Raducanu for a place in the third round. Raducanu defeated Wang Xinyu 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
Other results on the day saw No. 10 seed Paula Badosa dismiss four-time former Major winner Naomi Osaka 6-7(1), 6-1, 6-4.
Badosa will face either Elena-Gabriela Ruse or Mccartney Kessler in the round of 64.
No. 12 seed Elena Rybakina, No. 19 seed Liudmila Samsonova, Ajla Tomljanovic, Jaqueline Cristian, Robin Montgomery, Danielle Collins, Veronika Kudermetova, Yuliia Starodubtseva, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Bernarda Pera.
Pera ended the career of Caroline Garcia 6-4, 6-4, and Bouzas Maneiro blitzed No. 9 seed Emma Navvaro 6-0, 6-1.
Matches that are still to come on Monday will include No. 7 seed and Australian Open winner Madison Keys.
Tuesday’s schedule will feature No. 2 seed Coco Gauff, No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula and No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva.
