Paul, Svitolina Roll into Roland Garros Quarterfinals

American Tommy Paul reached his first-ever French Open quarterfinal on Sunday in Paris, France, defeating Australian Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 6-3, 6-3.
Needing nine minutes shy of two hours to complete his victory, Paul hit one ace, won 69 percent of his first serve points and broke the No. 25 seed on six occasions.
Paul, who will move up to No. 8 in the world (a new career high) as a result of his victory, will next face either No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz or No. 12 seed and fellow American Ben Shelton. Alcaraz and Shelton are scheduled for the night session on Sunday.
Other matches that are on deck for Sunday will include No. 8 seed Lorenzo Musetti taking on No. 10 seed Holger Rune, and No. 15 seed Frances Tiafoe going up against Daniel Altmaier from Germany.
Monday’s action in Paris will feature top seed Jannik Sinner going up against No. 17 seed Andrey Rublev, and No. 6 seed Novak Djokovic versus Cameron Norrie from the Great Britain.
No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev and No. 5 seed Jack Draper will also be in action.

Svitolina Reaches Final Eight
Ukrainian star Elina Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals in Paris on Sunday, ousting last year’s finalist and No. 4 seed Jasmine Paolini 6-4, 6-7(6), 6-1.
In a contest that lasted two hours and 24 minutes, Svitolina hit 37 winners and had two aces.
The No. 17 seed will next face either No. 5 seed Iga Swiatek or No. 12 seed Elena Rybakina.
Other matches on the day will feature No. 8 seed Qinwen Zheng facing No. 19 seed Liudmila Samsonova, and top seed Aryna Sabalenka taking on No. 16 seed Amanda Anisiamova.
On Monday, the schedule of play will feature No. 2 seed Coco Gauff, No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula, No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva and No. 7 seed Madison Keys.
