Fritz Defeats Fonseca to Reach Quarterfinals of 2025 Eastbourne Open
Thursday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results
Top seed and three-time former winner Taylor Fritz reached the quarterfinals of the Eastbourne Open in Great Britain on Thursday, defeating Brazilian upstart Joao Fonseca 6-3, 6-7(5), 7-5.
In a match that was carried over from Wednesday, Fritz finished the match with 17 aces and 26 winners.
The world No. 6 will next face fellow American Marcos Giron for a place in the semifinals later today.
Other completed matches today saw No. 4 seed Ugo Humbert, and lucky loser Jenson Brooksby reach the semifinals.
Hubert dismissed Billy Harris 7-6(4), 6-1, and Brooksby ousted Dan Evans 6-2, 6-3.
No. 3 seed Jakub Mensik currently trails No. 6 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina by a set and a break in their quarterfinal encounter.
On the women’s side, Philippines star Alexandra Eala picked up a comprehensive victory over Dayana Yastremska 6-1, 6-2, Maya Joint progressed past Anna Blinkova 6-4, 7-5, and Varvara Gracheva had a walkover victory over No. 2 seed and defending Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova.
Krejcikova withdrew with a right knee injury. Her participation at The Championships is unknown at this time.

Mallorca Championships presented by ecotrans Group
No. 2 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime overcame the loss of the first set to reach the semifinals of the Mallorca Open on Thursday, defeating Hamad Medjedovic 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Needing two hours and nine minutes to advance, Auger-Aliassime will next face No. 4 seed Tallon Griekspoor for a place in Saturday’s final.
Griekspoor dismissed No. 6 seed Gabriel Diallo 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
Corentin Moutet will take on Learner Tien later today, followed by No. 3 seed Alex Michelsen going up against Roberto Bautista Agut.
Tien upset top seed Ben Shelton on Wednesday.

Bad Homburg Open powered by Solarwatt—Germany
No. 2 seed and Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini set up an enticing semifinal encounter with No. 4 seed Iga Swiatek on Thursday at the Bad Homburg event in Germany.
Paolini reached the final four after defeating Beatriz Haddad Maia 7-5, 7-5, and Swiatek advanced to the semifinals after dispatching No. 8 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-4, 7-6(5).
Swiatek currently leads Paolini 4-0 in career head-to-head matches. The pair have never played on a grass court.
Matches that are still to come on Thursday will see top seed Jessica Pegula taking on No. 5 seed Emma Navarro, and No. 3 see Mirra Andreeva going up against Linda Noskova from the Czech Republic.
