Sinner Reaches Round of 16 at 2025 Italian Open; Gauff Advances
Monday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results
Monday’s action at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Italy saw top seed Jannik Sinner reach the round of 16 at the event, defeating Jesper de Jong 6-4, 6-2.
In a straight-forward match that lasted one hour and 34 minutes, Sinner hit 21 winners, stuck four aces, won 64 percent of his first serve points, and broke his Dutch opponent on five occasions.
The Italian star will next face No. 17 seed Francisco Cerundolo for a place in the quarterfinals.
Cerundolo ousted Sebastian Ofner 6-2, 6-4 earlier in the day.
Other results on Monday saw No. 7 seed Alex de Minaur, No. 11 seed Tommy Paul, No. 20 seed Jakub Mensik, No. 30 seed Hubert Hurkacz, and Jaume Munar reach the sweet 16.
Matches that are still on deck on Monday will feature No. 6 seed Casper Ruud taking on Matteo Berrettini.
Tuesday’s schedule in Rome will feature No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev and No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz back on court.
Gauff Advances Over Raducanu
No. 4 seed Coco Gauff easily advanced to the quarterfinals in Rome on Monday, defeating former US Open winner Emma Raducanu 6-1, 6-2.
Needing only one hour and 19 minutes to prevail, Gauff hit 4 aces and broke her British opponent on four occasions.
Gauff will next face No. 7 seed Mirra Andreeva, who ousted No. 22 seed Clara Tauson in three sets.
Other winners on the day saw No. 6 seed Jasmine Paolini, No. 13 seed Diana Shnaider, No. 16 seed Elina Svitolina and Peyton Stearns reach the quarterfinals.
Stearns defeated four-time former Major winner Naomi Osaka in a third set tiebreaker. The match lasted two hours and 41 minutes.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka and No. 8 seed Qinwen Zheng will be on court later today.
