De Minaur, Musetti Reach Third Round of 2025 Madrid Open
Saturday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results
No. 6 seed Alex de Minuar continued his clay-court season in style on Saturday, defeating Lorenzo Sonego 6-2, 6-3 at the Madrid Open in Spain on Saturday.
Needing one hour and 16 minutes to advance, de Minaur hit one ace, broke serve on four occasions and struck 12 winners during his victory.
Improving to 23-8 on the season, de Minaur will continue his quest for his first tile of 2025 by facing Denis Shapovalov from Canada on Monday. The Canadian defeated former world No. 4 Kei Nishikori 6-1, 6-4 earlier in the day.
Other results on Saturday featured entertaining Italian Lorenzo Musetti ousting Tomas Martin Etcheverry 7-6(3), 6-2. The 23-year-old and No. 10 seed will next face either No. 17 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas or German Jan-Lennard Struff.
Damir Dzumhur, Cameron Norrie and Gabriel Diallo were also winners on Saturday.
Sunday’s action at the Mutua Madrid Open will feature top seed Alexander Zverev, No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz, and No. 7 and defending champion Andrey Rublev.
No. 4 seed Novak Djokovic will be in action later on Saturday against Matteo Arnaldi.
Andreeva Soars into Round of 16
Playing some of the best tennis on tour, Mirra Andreeva continued her strong 2025 on Saturday in Madrid, Spain, defeating Magdalena Frech from Poland 7-5, 6-3.
Needing one hour and 41 minutes to prevail, Andreeva hit one ace and broke her opponent on four occasions. The 17-year-old will next face Yuliia Starodubsteva from Ukraine.
Other winners on Saturday included No. 5 seed and reigning Australian Open winner Madison Keys, and talented Russian Diana Shnaider.
Shnaider defeated Anastaija Sevastova 6-0, 6-0.
No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff and No. 11 seed Emma Navarro will be in action later today.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka will be back on court on Sunday for her round of 32 match.
