Madison Keys Wins 2025 Australian Open Over Top Seed Aryna Sabalenka

No. 19 seed Madison Keys claimed her first-career Major title on Saturday at the Australian Open, defeating top seed and two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 in two hours and two minutes.

Striking six aces, hitting 29 winners and breaking serve on four occasions, Keys won 69 percent of her first serve points.

The 29-year-old, who had previously made the finals of the 2017 US Open (losing to Sloane Stephens), and will move up to No. 7 in the world in the latest rankings.

Keys improved to 14-1 in the 2025 after winning the title in Adelaide, Australia to begin the season.

Keys played her first Major event at the 2011 US Open, losing in the second round. She had previously had six semifinal appearances at Grand Slam events.

Sabalenka, who was aiming to three-peat Down Under, fell to 3-2 in Major Finals. The Belorussian is currently the reigning US Open winner and will defend her title later this Summer.

Men’s Final Preview

The top two seeds will square off on Sunday for the first Grand Slam of the year.

No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev will take a 4-2 head-to-head lead over No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner when they step on to Rod Laver Arena for their seventh encounter.

Zverev, who received a retirement victory over 10-time champion Novak Djokovic after only one set in the semifinals, will be keen on grabbing his first-ever title in his third Major final. The German had previously lost in five set to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 French Open final, and Dominic Thiem in the 2020 US Open final.

Zverev has 23 titles to his name and over 50 million in career prize money.

Sinner, who is looking to win his third-career Major in the last two years, has benefitted from an easy path to the final round. The 23-year-old’s highest ranked opponent en-route to the final was No. 8 seed Alex de Minuar. He defeated the Australian handily in the quarterfinals.

Sinner will be looking to claim his 19th career title on Sunday.
