Alcaraz Reaches 2025 Italian Open Finals
Friday’s ATP Tour Results from Rome
Friday’s action at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Italy saw No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz reach his third clay-court final of the Spring, defeating local favourite and Italian star Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 7-6(4).
Needing two hours and three minutes to prevail, Alcaraz hit one ace, won 66 percent of his first serve points, struck 19 winners and broke serve on five occasions.
Improving to 5-1 against Musetti in lifetime meetings, Alcaraz will next face either top seed Jannik Sinner or American No. 11 seed Tommy Paul.
Sinner dismantled recent Madrid Open winner Casper Ruud 6-0, 6-1 on Thursday, and Paul defeated No. 30 seed Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(4), 6-3.
Alcaraz has won two titles this year and made the finals in Barcelona. Sinner is returning to action after serving a three month doping ban. Paul will be aiming to reach the biggest final of his career against the world No. 1.
Sinner leads Paul 3-1 in career head-to-head meetings.
Women’s Final Preview: Gauff vs. Paolini
The two best players of the week will square off on Saturday for the title in Rome. No. 4 seed Coco Gauff will take on local favourite and No. 6 seed Jasmine Paolini.
Gauff has shown great form throughout the event, defeating the likes of No. 7 seed Mirra Andreeva, No. 8 seed Qinwen Zheng and former US Open champion Emma Raducanu.
The American is no stranger to success on clay, reaching the finals of the French Open in 2022.
Paolini, who reached two Major finals in 2024 at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, dismissed Ons Jabeur, No 13 seed Diana Shnaider, No. 17 seed Jelena Ostapenko, and inform American Peyton Stearns in the semifinals.
Gauff leads Paolini 2-1 in career head-to-head meetings. Paolini won their most recent encounter in Stuttgart, Germany on clay last month.
