World No. 1 Sinner Reaches Second Round of 2025 Wimbledon Championships
Tuesday’s Results from Wimbledon
Tuesday’s action at Wimbledon saw world No. 1 and three-time Major winner Jannik Sinner reach the second round, defeating fellow Italian Luca Nardi 6-4, 6-3, 6-0.
Needing one hour and 48 minutes to seal his victory, Sinner struck nine aces, 28 winners, broke serve on five occasions and won 89 percent of his first serve points.
Never winning the world’s most prestigious event, Sinner will next face Aleksandar Vukic for a place in the third round.
Vukic defeated Chun-Hsin Tseng 6-3, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(5) earlier in the day.
Sinner is the reigning US and Australian Open champion. He recently made the finals of the French Open, losing to Carlos Alcaraz in five, epic sets.
Other winners on the day saw No. 11 seed Alex de Minaur, No. 13 seed Tommy Paul, and Lorenzo Sonego reaching the round of 64.
No. 7 seed Lorenzo Musetti lost to Nikoloz Basilashvili in four sets, and No. 30 seed Alex Michelsen was ousted by Miomir Kecmanovic in a fifth set super tiebreaker.
On Wednesday, defending champion Alcaraz is back on court against Oliver Tarvet.
The Spaniard is aiming to three-peat at The Championships.
Seven-time former winner Novak Djokovic will look to reach round two when he faces Alexandre Muller later today.
Djokovic continues his quest for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam.
Defending champion Krejcikova Advances
Defending women’s champion Barbora Krejcikova prevailed during a first-round encounter on Tuesday in London, England, defeating up-and-coming Philippine star Alexandra Eala.
Struggling with injuries for the better part of the season, Krejcikova advanced by a scoreline of 3-6, 6-2, 6-1
Eala, who has captivated the hearts of tennis fans all over the globe with her play this year, will now shift her focus to the North American hard-courts.
Krejcikova next face either Caroline Dolehide or Arantxa Rus.
Other upsets on the day saw No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula crash out of the event, losing in less than one hour to Elisabetta Cocciaretto 6-2, 6-3.
Pegula had just won the Bad Homburg event against Iga Swiatek over the weekend.
No. 16 seed Daria Kasatkina, No. 18 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, and No. 23 seed Clara Tauson all advanced to round two.
Matches that are still scheduled for Tuesday will feature No. 2 seed Coco Gauff, No. 7 seed Mirra Andreeva, and No. 8 seed Iga Swiatek.
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka will continue her quest for a maiden Wimbledon title on Wednesday against Lulu Sun.
No. 14 seed Elina Svitolina will also be in action on Wednesday.
