Sabalenka Wins 2025 Madrid Open Title
Saturday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results
Saturday’s women’s final at the Madrid Open in Spain featured world No. 1 and top seed Aryna Sabalenka sealing her third title of the season, defeating No. 4 seed Coco Gauff 6-3, 7-6(3).
Needing one hour and 39 minutes to collect her title, Sabalenka hit two aces, won 68 percent of her first serve points, and broke serve on four occasions. Tying her head-to-head record with Gauff at 5-all, Sabalenka also won her third crown in Madrid.
The Belorussian will next see action as the top seed at next week’s Italian Open in Rome.
Gauff, who enjoyed a great week in Madrid, defeated defending champion Iga Swiatek in the semifinals and No. 7 seed and inform Russian Mirra Andreeva in the quarterfinals. Gauff will move up to No. 3 in the world when Monday’s rankings are released.
Men’s Final Preview: Draper vs. Ruud
Sunday’s men’s final in Spain’s Capital City will feature No. 5 seed Jack Draper facing clay-court expert and No. 14 seed Casper Ruud. Never playing on Tour, the pair have had very different starts to the 2025 season.
Draper, who recently won his maiden Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells, California, is full of confidence and at a new career high of No. 5 in the world. The 23-year-old lefty has three titles to his name and has easily moved through the Madrid draw this year.
Ruud’s resume on clay speaks for itself. Reaching the French Open finals on two occasions, the Norwegian owns 12 career titles, with 11 of those victories being recorded on an outdoor clay court.
The 26-year-old has had a poor year by his standards, but this week’s trip to the Madrid finals is certainly a step in the right direction.
Ruud defeated No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz, No. 9 seed Daniil Medvedev and No. 20 seed Francisco Cerundolo en-route to the finals.
Draper has ousted No. 30 seed Matteo Berrettini, No. 11 seed Tommy Paul, No. 10 seed Lorenzo Musetti and Novak Djokovic’s conquerer Matteo Arnaldi to reach the final stage.
