Mutua Madrid Open—Madrid, Spain
Ruud Wins 2025 Madrid Open Title Over Draper
Sunday’s ATP Tour Results
Two-time French Open finalist Casper Ruud won the biggest time of his career on Sunday in Madrid, Spain, defeating Brit Jack Draper 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
In a clay-court tussle that lasted two hours and 29 minutes, Ruud used his fierce forehand to hit 40 winners, nine aces, break serve on three occasions and win 81 percent of his first serve points.
Playing Draper for the first time, Ruud used his recent confidence to clinch his 13th career title. Clearly liking the conditions at the Madrid Open, Ruud will move up to No. 7 in the world when the latest rankings are released.
Ruud, who has had an off year by his standards, will now look to build more momentum in Rome next week. The Norwegian star defeated No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz, No. 9 seed Daniil Medvedev, No. 20 seed Francisco Cerundolo and No. 23 seed Sebastian Korda en-route the finals.
Draper had eliminated No. 10 Lorenzo Musetti, No. 11 seed Tommy Paul, No. 30 seed Matteo Berrettini and Novak Djokovic’s conquerer Matteo Arnaldi earlier in the event.
Draper will be ranked No. 5 in the world on Monday. A new career high.
