Eala Upsets Swiatek at 2025 Miami Open; Fils Reaches Quarterfinals

Wednesday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results from Miami

Reigning French Open winner Iga Swiatek failed to reach the semifinals of the Miami Open on Wednesday, losing to Alexandra Eala from the Philippines 6-2, 7-5.

In a match that lasted one hour and 39 minutes, Eala struck one ace, won 52 percent of her first serve points and broke her opponent on eight occasions.

Looking to win her first title this week, Eala will next face No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula or former US Open winner Emma Raducanu for a place in the final.

Eala, who will move up into the top 75 in the world next Monday, continues to prove that she belongs on the main Tour. She also defeated reigning Australian Open winner Madison Keys and former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko earlier in the event.

Thursday’s order of play in South Florida will see top seed Aryna Sabalenka go up against No. 6 seed Jasmine Paolini.

Sabalenka dismissed Qinwen Zheng in straight sets on Tuesday, and Paolini ousted Madga Linette in two sets.

Fils Advances to Final Eight

Wednesday’s action at the 2025 Miami Open presented by Itau saw top seed Alexander Zverev crash out of the event, losing to No. 17 seed Arthur Fils 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Needing two hours to prevail, Fils hit four aces, won 69 percent of his first serve points, struck 25 winners and broke his German opponent on three occasions. Improving to 2-3 against Zverev in lifetime meetings, Fils will next face Jakub Mensik for a spot in the semifinals.

The Czech star advanced when his countryman Tomas Machac withdrew with an illness on Tuesday.

Matches that are still to come on Wednesday will feature No. 14 seed Grigor Dimitrov taking on No. 23 seed Francisco Cerundolo, and No. 4 seed Novak Djokovic facing No. 24 seed Sebastian Korda.

Djokovic ousted No. 15 seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-2, 6-2 on Tuesday evening, and Korda defeated Gael Monfils in three sets earlier in the day.

Thursday’s schedule in Miami will feature No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz going up against No. 29 seed Matteo Berrettini.
