Men’s Final Preview: Sinner vs. Alcaraz

Monday’s men’s finals preview at the Cincinnati Open will see top seed Jannik Sinner face No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz at 3pm EST. 

Locking horns for the fourth time in 2025, Alcaraz will be looking to get back into the winner’s circle after a recent loss to his 24-year-old opponent at Wimbledon.

Alcaraz, who leads Sinner 8-5 in career head-to-head meetings, has defeated the Italian in five of their last six Tour encounters. 

Sinner’s road to the finals was a smooth one, including an easy draw which included not facing any top 20 players. He dismissed Terence Atmane 7-6(4), 6-2 semifinals, and No. 23 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the in the quarterfinals.

Alcaraz, who had the much tougher road to the championship match, dismissed No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev 6-4, 6-3 on Saturday, and No. 9 seed Andrey Rublev in three sets in the quarterfinals.  

Sinner, who remains the best hard-court player on the planet, is defending the champion in both Cincinnati and next week’s US Open. 

Alcaraz lost in the finals of the Cincinnati Open to Novak Djokovic in 2023, and the second round of the US Open in 2024 to Botic van de Zandschulp. The 22-year-old will be eager gain as many points as possible in his hunt for the world No. 1 ranking over Sinner.

Sinner and Alcaraz have contested the last four tournaments that they have both entered. Alcaraz dispatched Sinner in the Rome Masters and French Open finals, and Sinner defeated the Spaniard for his first Wimbledon crown in mid July.

Alcaraz currently has 21 career titles, five Grand Slam crowns, and five titles in 2025. Sinner has collected 20 career titles, four career Grand Slams, and two titles this year.

Women’s Final Preview: Swiatek vs. Paolini

Monday’s women’s final preview at the Cincinnati Open will see No. 3 seed Iga Swiatek facing No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini.

Swiatek, who ousted No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina in straight sets on Sunday, will take a 5-0 head-to-head lead over the Italian when the two take the court on Monday evening in Mason, Ohio. 

Swiatek, who recently won her first Wimbledon title over Amanda Anisimova, now owns six Major titles. The Pole has regained the form that took her to world No. 1, and will now be considered a serious treat to capture her second US Open title in New York this year. 

Paolini, who reached two Major finals in 2024, continues to be one of the fastest players on Tour. She defeated both Veronika Kudermetova in three sets in the semifinals and No. 2 seed Coco Gauff in three sets in the quarterfinals.

Swiatek and Paolini will contest their Championship match at 6pm on Monday evening in Cincinnati.
