Blockbuster Day 9 at 2025 Cincinnati Open Features Sinner, Sabalenka, Alcaraz and Swiatek
Wednesday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results and Previews from Cincinnati
Wednesday’s action at the Cincinnati Open in Mason, Ohio will feature top seed Jannik Sinner, No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz, No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev, women’s top seed Aryna Sabalenka and recent Wimbledon winner Iga Swiatek all in action.
First up, Italian star Sinner will take on the eclectic game of Frenchman Adrian Mannarino. Sinner has played Mannarino on three occasions and only lost one set throughout thier previous matches.
Mannarino defeated No. 13 seed Tommy Paul in the third round in three sets, and Sinner took out Canadian Gabriel Diallo in straight sets. Sinner is the defending champion in Cincinnati and the upcoming US Open in New York City.
Under the lights tonight, 2023 finalist Alcaraz returns to face lucky loser Luca Nardi. Nardi advanced to the fourth round when Miami Open winner Jakub Mensik retired in the second set of the their third round match.
Alcaraz progressed to the sweet 16 by defeating Hamad Medjedovic from Serbia 6-4, 6-4. Alcaraz leads Nardi 1-0 in career head-to-head meetings, defeating the Italian earlier this year in Doha, Qatar in three sets.
Other matches on the day will feature No. 7 seed Holger Rune taking on No. 10 seed and defending finalist Frances Tiafoe in the day’s first match, followed by No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev resuming his third round match with Brandan Nakashima from Tuesday night. The encounter was stopped due to inclement weather.
National Bank Open winner Ben Shelton will also be in action on Wednesday, facing Spanish veteran Roberto Bautista Agut in a third round encounter. No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz takes on Terence Atmane from France on Court 3.
Sabalenka, Swiatek Highlight Women’s Draw
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka will returns after her epic victory against Emma Raducanu in the third round to take on inform Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro.
Sabalenka, who is the defending champion in Cincinnati and US Open winner, will be looking to be in top form over the next month with 3000 WTA points to defend.
Six-time Major winner Iga Swiatek will also look to carry over her form from winning the Wimbledon title, facing Sorana Cirstea from Romania.
Swaitek, who is a former winner at the US Open, will be looking to finish off her season in style with a deep run in Cincinnati and in NYC.
Other matches to follow on Wednesday will be highlighted by No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula resuming her match with Magda Linette from Tuesday, No. 6 seed Madison Keys facing No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina, and No. 12 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova versus No. 28 seed Anna Kalinskaya.
