Cincinnati Open 2025 Semifinal Preview: Swiatek vs. Rybakina; Paolini vs. Kudermetova

Sunday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results and Previews from Cincinnati

Women’s Semifinal Preview:

Sunday’s women’s semifinal preview at the Cincinnati Open will be highlighted by No. 3 seed Iga Swiatek taking on No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina, and No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini facing Russian Veronika Kudermetova.

Swiatek, a six-time Major winner, progressed to the final four when she defeated No. 29 seed Anna Kalinskaya in straight sets on Friday. The Polish star resurrected her season after claiming the Wimbledon title in mid July.

Prior to that victory, Swiatek had not won a title since winning her fourth crown at the French Open last year.

Swiatek’s opponent on Sunday will be Rybakina. She defeated top seed Aryna Sabalenka 6-1, 6-4 on Friday. Rybakina, a former Wimbledon winner, also made the semifinals of the National Bank Open in Montreal last week (l. Victoria Mboko).

Two-time Major finalist Paolini overcame the loss of the first set to dismiss No. 2 seed Coco Gauff in three sets on Friday, and Kudermetova reeled off an easy straight sets victor over Varvara Gracheva 6-1, 6-2.

Head-to-Head Stats:

Swiatek has a career 5-4 head-to-head lead over Rybakina, and Kudermetova holds a 3-1 series lead over Paolini heading into their semifinal encounter.

The winners of today’s matches will face off for the top prize in Mason, Ohio on Monday.

Men’s Final Preview: Sinner vs. Alcaraz

Top seed Jannik Sinner will take on No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz for the 2025 men’s title at the Cincinnati Open on Monday.

Facing each other for the fourth time this year, Alcaraz will look to avenge a recent loss to his Italian opponent at Wimbledon. Alcaraz still holds a strong 8-5 head-to-head lead over Sinner, and has defeated the 24-year-old in five of their last six meetings.

Sinner, whose road to the final included playing no top 20 players, defeated Terence Atmane 7-6(4), 6-2 on Saturday. Alcaraz took the court later in the day to tie his head-to-head meetings with Alexander Zverev at 6-all, defeating the ailing German 6-4, 6-3.

Sinner, who is far-and-away the best hard-court player in the world, will be the favourite the defend his title on Monday in front of the sold-out crowd. Sinner is also the defending champion at next week’s US Open Championships.

Alcaraz, who lost early in Cincinnati last year and at the US Open, will have an opportunity to gain valuable points as he attempts to regain the world No. 1 ranking.

Sinner and Alcaraz have now played in the last four tournaments that they have both entered. Alcaraz defeated Sinner in both Rome, Italy and Paris, France, and Sinner edged the Spaniard for his first Wimbledon title earlier this Summer.

Alcaraz currently owns 21 career titles, five Majors and five titles this year. Sinner has four 20 career titles, four Majors and two titles in 2025.
