Zverev Advances to 2025 Miami Open Fourth Round; Paolini Prevails

Monday’s action at the Miami Open presented by Itau featured towering German and top seed Alexander Zverev reaching the fourth round, defeating Jordan Thompson 7-5, 6-4.
Using his serve to great effect, Zverev hit six aces, 22 winners, won 76 percent of his first serve points and broke his Australian opponent on three occasions.
Looking to gain valuable points towards becoming No. 1 in the world, Zverev will next face either No. 16 seed Frances Tiafoe or No. 17 seed Arthur Fils for a place in the quarterfinals.
Other winners on the day included Adam Walton defeating Coleman Wong. Walton advanced by a scoreline of 7-6(6) 4-6 6-4.
Coleman, who is currently ranked No. 182 in the world, received a wildcard to enter the event.
No. 20 seed Tomas Machac ended the hopes of Reilly Opelka, dismissing the American 7-6(1), 6-3.
No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz and Brazilian sensation Joao Fonseca will be in action later today.
Fonseca will face No. 10 seed Alex de Minuar under the lights.
Tuesday’s schedule in South Florida will include No. 4 seed Novak Djokovic, No. 5 seed Casper Ruud, No. 14 seed Grigor Dimitrov and No. 24 seed Sebastian Korda.

Paolini Moves On
Former world No. 1 and four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka failed to advance to quarterfinals in Miami on Monday, losing to No. 6 seed Jasmine Poalini 3-6, 6-6, 6-4.
Needing two hours and 15 minutes to advance, Paolini hit one ace, won 62 percent of her first serve points and broke her Japanese opponent on three occasions.
The Italian star will next face the winner of No. 3 seed Coco Gauff or Magda Linette from Poland.
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka, No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek, No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula, No. 10 seed Paola Badosa, and No. 17 seed Amanda Anisimova will be on court later today.
