Roland Garros—Paris, France
Wednesday’s action at the French Open featured top seed Iga Swiatek ease past American Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-2 to reach the semifinals.
The defending champion, who defeated Gauff in last year’s final, will next face Beatriz Haddad Maia. The Brazilian ousted No. 7 seed Ons Jabeur 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-1.
Haddad Maia owns a 1-0 head-to-head lead over Swiatek in lifetime meetings. The pair will face off on Thursday.
Elsewhere, German Alexander Zverev continued his resurgence on Tour by ousting Argentine Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Losing to Rafael Nadal last year after suffering a year-ending ankle injury, Zverev will next face either Casper Ruud or Holger Rune for a place in the finals.
Thursday’s schedule in Paris will also feature No. 2 seed Aryna Sabalenka facing Karolina Muchova in the other women’s semifinals.
The men’s semifinals, featuring Carlos Alcaraz vs. Novak Djokovic will take place on Friday.
