Ruud Wins Against Alcaraz in 2024 ATP Finals Opener
Monday’s action at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, Italy featured No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz losing a 5-2 lead in the second set and the match to No. 6 seed Casper Ruud, 6-1, 7-5.
In a match that lasted one hour and 26 minutes, Ruud hit 15 winners, five aces, won 68 percent of his first serve points and broke the Spaniard on four occasions.
Building his victory by constantly approaching the net, Ruud improved to 1-0 in group action and 1-4 against Alcaraz in lifetime meetings.
Alcaraz will have his work cut out for him for the rest of the week, when he faces No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev and No. 8 seed Andrey Rublev to stay in contention for the semifinals.
Elsewhere, tonight’s main event will feature French Open finalist Zverev taking on two-time Masters 1000 winner Rublev.
Tuesday’s Schedule in Turin
Tuesday’s schedule in Turin will feature top seed Jannik Sinner taking on No. 5 seed Taylor Fritz and No. 4 seed Daniil Medvedev facing No. 7 seed Alex de Minuar.
Sinner and Fritz currently stand at 1-0 in the Ilie Nastase Group, while Medvedev and de Minuar are both at 0-1.
The winner of Sinner and Fritz will more than likely make it to the semifinal stage, while the loser of Medvedev vs. de Minuar will likely be eliminated from the tournament.
