China Open—Beijing, China

The Spaniard Notched his Third Straight Win Over the Italian in 2024

Wednesday’s action at the China Open in Beijing featured a memorable final between the two best players in the world.

Needing three hours and 21 minutes to prevail, Carlos Alcaraz collected his third-straight victory over world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in 2024, recording a 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(3) scoreline.

Overcoming a 0-3 deficit in the third set tiebreaker, Alcaraz used his forehand and athleticism to great effect to capture his fourth title of the year.

Hitting six aces, Alcaraz also added 55 winners and won 73 percent of his first serve points. Breaking Sinner on three occasions, Alcaraz also improved to 48-9 on the season and 6-4 against Sinner in lifetime meetings.

Sinner, who was aiming to defend his title, fell to 59-6 in 2024. The 23-year-old has won six titles this year, including the Australian and US Opens. Alcaraz has captured the French Open and Wimbledon.

Both Sinner and Alcaraz will next set their sights on the eighth Masters 1000 event of the year in Shanghai, China.

They will be joined in the field by 24-time Major winner and Olympic Gold Medalist Novak Djokovic.

Sabalenka, Muchova and Andreeva Progress in Beijing

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka won her 15-match in a row on the WTA in Beijing on Wednesday, defeating Madison Keys 6-4, 6-3.

Sabalenka, who won in Cincinnati and then at the US Open, broke serve on five occasions during the one hour and five minute affair.

The Belorussian will next face Karolina Muchova for a place in the semifinals. The Czechia star defeated Cristina Bucsa 6-2, 6-0 in one hour and nine minutes.

Other winners on the day included No. 17 seed Mirra Andreeva defeating No. 31 seed Magda Linette 6-1, 6-3. Andreeva will await tonight’s winner between No. 5 seed Qinwen Zheng and No. 34 seed Amanda Anisamova.
