Rublev Advances at Hamburg Open; Nishikori Wins in Geneva
Former champion Andrey Rublev advanced to the second round of the Hamburg Open in Germany on Monday, defeating Damir Dzumhur 6-4, 6-3.
Needing 90 minutes to prevail, Rublev hit three aces, won 83 percent of his first serve points and broke his opponent on four occasions. The Russian will next face either Jan-Lennard Struff or Justin Engel for a place in the quarterfinals.
Other results on the day included No. 7 seed Brandon Nakashima and Roberto Bautista Agut reaching the second round.
Top seed Alexander Zverev will be in action later today against Aleksander Kovacevic from the United States.
The 500 level event is a final tune-up before next week’s French Open.
Zverev is defending finals points from the year’s second Major.

Gonet Geneva Open—Switzerland
Jacob Fearnley from Great Britain and Sebastian Ofner from Austria raced into the second round of the Geneva Open on Monday.
Fearnley continued his strong season by ousting Dusan Lajovic 6-4, 6-1 and Ofner progressed after he easily dismissed Ivan Gakhov 6-1, 6-2.
Fearnley will next face No. 5 seed Alexi Popyrin, and Ofner will take on Nuno Borges from Portugal.
Former world No. 4 and US Open finalist Kei Nishikori needed three sets to get past Learner Tien 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 later in the day.
Nishikori is currently ranked No. 62 in the world.

Monday’s action in Strasbourg saw American Ashlyn Krueger defeat country-woman Mccartney Kessler 6-4, 7-5.
Krueger, currently ranked No. 37 in the world, will next face either No. 9 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia or Clara Tauson from Denmark.
Other winners on the day saw Marie Bouzkova and Xinyu Wang reach the round of 16.
No. 6 seed Daria Kasatkina will take on Emma Raducanu later today.
Top seed Jessica Pegula will be in action later this week.

Australian star Ajla Tomljanovic improved her record this season to 10/10 on Monday in Rabat, Morocco, defeating No. 5 seed Viktoriya Tomova 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
Tomljanovic, who is currently ranked No. 79 in the world and was ranked as high as No. 32, will next face Tatiana Pieri or Carlota Martinez Cirez from Spain.
Other winners on day featured No. 4 seed Ann Li, Jaqueline Cristian, and Katie Volynets from the United States reaching the second round.
No. 2 seed Camila Osorio will take on Elisabetta Cocciaretto later today.
