Reviewing Stan Wawrinka’s Latest Yonex VCORE Pro 97 Racket

Continuing the standard of making high-quality frames for the world’s best players, Yonex Tennis with insight from three-time Major winner Stan Wawrinka is proud to release the latest Yonex VCORE Pro 97 in 330g, 310g and 290g. With Stan the man opting for the heaviest of the four versions, here’s our low-down on his latest frame.

Packed with the same characteristics that Yonex players have grown to love with these rackets, the Yonex VCORE Pro 97 is an outstanding frame for those looking for unparalleled control and feel. Not designed for those who can’t generate there own weight-of-shot, the Yonex VCORE Pro 97 comes in at over 12 ounces strung weight and a very spin friendly 16×19 string pattern. Plow-through and stability on countless ground-strokes were made easy with this frame and the new Namd technology made the contact in the sweet spot that much more enjoyable.

Strung up with the all-new Yonex Poly Tour Strike (as endorsed by Denis Shapovalov), the racket provided even more control due the secure poly composition of the string. Another great feature of this frame was low stiffness index of 65. Players can string this racket up with a higher tension, but we’d recommend staying between 45LBS-52LBS on the mains and crosses.

The highlight feature with Yonex rackets in general has always been how solid they are at net. Touch volleys were a dream and even if a deep volley was required, the control quotient of the Yonex VCORE Pro 97 allowed for superior control throughout numerous volleys.

All in all, it would be great if the Yonex VCORE Pro 97 (330g) was compatible for more beginner level players as well, but luckily the 290g version has arrived and will do the trick as players improve their skills toward the 330g frame.

Bottom line: if you’re looking to hit that vintage down-the-line backhand like Stan Wawrinka, then the Yonex VCORE Pro 97 is a must-try during the Spring/Summer 2018 season.

You can purchase the all-new Yonex VCORE Pro 97 at the following retailers: Merchant of Tennis, TennisWarehouse and TennisWarehouse-Europe.
