Pouille Wins Stuttgart Title; Muller Captures Ricoh Open Crown

Mercedes Cup—Stuttgart, Germany

No. 4 seed Lucas Pouille won the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart, Germany on Sunday, defeating Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4. In a highly competitive grass-court encounter, Pouille overcame the loss of the first set to claim his third career title and the second of the season. Winning 78 percent of his first serve points, Pouille struck an impressive 29 aces and broke serve on one occasion. Improving to 2-1 against Lopez in lifetime meetings, Pouille also won his 23rd singles match of the year.

Lopez, who was in search of his sixth career title, defeated Mischa Zverev and Tomas Berdych earlier in the event.

Ricoh Open—s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands

Gilles Muller continued his strong season on the ATP World Tour by taking home his second title of 2017 on Sunday at the Ricoh Open in s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. Defeating Ivo Karlovic 7-6(5), 7-6(4), Muller needed one hour and 33 minutes to dismiss his Croatian opponent. Striking 22 aces of his own, Muller withstood 19 aces from Karlovic during the serving contest. With no breaks of serve to report, Muller improved to 2-1 against Karlovic in lifetime meetings. The pair have now played seven straight tiebreakers.

Karlovic, who was aiming to win his ninth career title, fell to 11-11 in 2017.
