Mensik Reaches Semifinals of 2025 Miami Open
Thursday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results from Miami
Frenchman Arthur Fils failed to reach the semifinals of the Miami Open presented by Itau on Thursday, losing to Jakub Mensik 7-6(5), 6-1.
Needing one hour and 15 minutes to prevail, Mensik used his big forehand to dictate most of the encounter. Striking 26 winners, hitting 13 aces, and winning 86 percent of his first save points and breaking his French opponent on four occasions.
Mensik, who is currently ranked No. 34 in the world, will next face either No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz or No. 29 seed Matteo Berrettini for place in Sunday’s final.
Other matches that are still to come on Thursday will include No. 4 seed Novak Djokovic taking on No. 24 seed Sebastian Korda.
Djokovic and Korda were supposed to play on Wednesday evening but their match was pushed over to Thursday after a string of long matches during the day.
The winner will take on Grigor Dimitrov on Friday. The Bulgarian ousted No. 23 seed Francisco Cerundolo in two hours and 48 minutes on Wednesday.
Sabalenka Goes for the Finals
Top seed Aryna Sabalenka will attempt to win her second title of the year this week at the Miami Open after she defeated No. 6 seed Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-2
Leading the Paolini 4-2 in head-to-head meetings, Sabalenka has yet to lose a set during her first, five matches.
The day’s second semifinal will feature No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula taking on the story of the tournament in Alexandra Eala.
The 19-year-old from the Philippines has set the tournament on fire with her three victories of Grand Slam winners. Defeating Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek in succession, Eala has improved her ranking to No. 75 in the world in the latest rankings.
Pegula, who will be the favourite in the match, currently owns seven career titles.
Friday’s action at the Miami Open will feature men’s semifinal play. Saturday’s schedule will be highlighted by the women’s final and Sunday will culminate the event with the men’s championship match.
