Zverev Wins Hamburg Title; Fritz Claims Atlanta Crown; Popyrin Captures Croatia Open Title

Hamburg European Open—Hamburg, Germany

Former US Open finalist Alexander Zverev won the Hamburg European Open on Sunday, defeating Laslo Djere 7-5, 6-3.

Needing one hour and 50 minutes to seal his title, Zverev hit three aces, won 77 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on three occasions.

Winning his last title at the 2021 Nitto ATP Finals, Zverev will now move up to No. 16 on Monday.

Djere, who had a great week in Hamburg, was aiming to win his third career title. The 28-year-old will move up to No. 38 in the computer rankings on Monday.

Atlanta Open—Atlanta, GA, U.S.A.

Top ranked American Taylor Fritz continued his successful season on Sunday in Atlanta, Georgia, upending surprise finalist Aleksandar Vukic 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-4 to win his sixth career title.

Striking 31 winners during the two hour and 26 minute encounter, Fritz needed all of his experience hold off his lower-ranked opponent.

Capturing his third title in the United States, Fritz will next see action at the Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington, D.C. next week.

Vukic, who has had his best season on Tour to date, ousted Yoshihito Nishioka, Christopher Eubanks and Ugo Humbert earlier in the week.

The 27-year-old will move up to No. 61 in the world on Monday.

Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag—Umag, Croatia

Australian Alexei Popyrin captured the second title of his career on Sunday in Umag, Croatia, defeating Stan Wawrinka 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4.

In a contest that lasted two hours and 36 minutes, Popyrin used his potent serve and net play to offset his more experienced opponent.

Popyrin, who claimed his second career title, also defeated No. 3 seed Sebastian Ofner earlier in the tournament.

Wawrinka, who is now 38, will see his ranking climb to No. 49 in the world as a result of his finals appearance.

Having won his last title in Geneva, Switzerland six years ago, Wawrinka continues to prove that age is nothing but a number.

Popyrin will improve his ranking to No. 57 in the world on Monday.
