Herbert Advances in Marseille; Rybakina Reaches Quarterfinals in Doha

Wednesday’s schedule at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille, France featured Pierre-Hugues Herbert winning an all-French battle to start the day, defeating Harold Mayot 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Herbert, who is currently ranked No. 192 in the world, hit 16 aces, won 82 percent of his first serve points and broke his opponent on three occasions.

Herbert will next face top seed Daniil Medvedev for a place in the quarterfinals. Medvedev received a bye in the first round.

Other results on the day saw No. 7 seed Lorenzo Sonego and qualifier Hugo Grenier advance. Sonego moved into the quarterfinals when Luca Van Assche withdrew from their second round match, and Grenier dismissed Arthur Gea 7-5, 6-4 in first round action.

Still to come on Wednesday, No. 2 seed and defending champion Ugo Humbert will face Alexander Bublik, and No. 3 seed Karen Khachanov will take on Hamad Medjedovic.

Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2025—Doha, Qatar

Wednesday’s action at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2025 in Doha, Qatar saw former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina reach the quarterfinals, defeating Rebecca Sramkova 7-6(1), 6-2.

Needing one hour and 24 minutes to advance, Rybakina used her big serve to hit four aces, won 90 percent of her first serve points, and broke her Slovakian opponent on four occasions.

Rybakina, who is currently ranked No. 7 in the world, will next face either No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek or inform Linda Noskova.

Other results on the day featured former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko defeat No. 4 seed Jasmine Paolini, 6-2, 6-2.

The Latvian will next face either Ons Jabeur or Sofia Kenin.

Other matches that are still on deck on Wednesday will see No. 6 seed Jessica Pegula taking on No. 10 seed Daria Kasatkina, and Marta Kostyuk facing Magda Linette.

Tuesday’s action featured a stunner of a result as top seed Aryna Sabalenka was defeated by Ekaterina Alexandrova, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) in two hours and 36 minutes.
