Carabelli Advances in Bastad; Comesana Wins in Gstaad
Thursday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results
Thursday’s action at the Nordea Open in Bastad, Sweden saw No. 5 seed Camilo Ugo Carabelli progress to the quarterfinals, defeating Botic Van De Zandschulp 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-3 in two hours and 51 minutes.
Carabelli, who is ranked No. 59 in the world, will next face either No. 3 seed and defending champion Nuno Borges, or Filip Misolic from Austria.
Other matches that are set to take place on Thursday will include Francisco Cerundolo taking on Marino Navone, and No. 7 seed Damir Dzumhur facing Hugo Gaston from France.

EFG Swiss Open Gstaad—Gstaad, Switzerland
No. 7 seed Francisco Comesana reached the quarterfinal stage of the Swiss Open in Gstaad, Switzerland on Thursday, dismissing Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 6-1, 6-4.
Needing one hour and 14 minutes to prevail, Comesana will next face either No. 2 seed Alexander Bublik or Alexander Shevchenko from Kazakhstan.
No. 4 seed Tomas Marin Etcheverry will also be in action later today against Arthur Cazaux from France.
Top seed Casper Ruud will return on Friday for this quarterfinal encounter against Juan Manuel Cerundolo. Cerundolo ousted former world No. 6 David Goffin in three sets in a carry over match on Thursday.

Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo—Los Cabos, Mexico
Thursday’s quarterfinal lineup in Los Cabos, Mexico will see top seed Andrey Rublev taking on Emilio Nava, and No. 3 seed Denis Shapovalov facing Tristian Schoolkate.
The tournament lost its No. 2 and No. 4 seeds on Wednesday evening. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina was ousted by James Duckworth in straight sets, and No. 4 seed Quentin Halys was defeated by Argentine Juan Pablo Ficovich 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3.
Rublev made his 80th career quarterfinal on Wednesday with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Alex Hernandez and Shapovalov improved to 16-14 on the year with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Govind Nanda from the United States.

Thursday’s results from the WTA Hamburg Open in Germany featured No. 2 seed Dayana Yastremska picking up a clean cut victory over Diane Parry 6-1, 6-4, and No. 7 seed Anna Bondar taking out Sinja Kraus 6-3, 6-2.
Other winners on the day saw Viktoriya Tomova advance to the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-1 victory Astra Sharma.
Top seed Ekaterina Alexandrova will be in action later today against home-country favourite Caroline Werner from Germany.

UNICREDIT IASI OPEN—IASI, ROMANIA
Thursday’s schedule of play in Iasi, Romania featured top seed Elina Avanesyan crashing out of the event, losing in straight sets to Maria Lourdes Carle from Argentina 7-6(4), 6-2.
Carle will next face local favourite Sorana Cirstea for a place in the semifinals. Cristea defeated No. 5 seed Varvara Gracheva 6-2, 6-4.
Other results on the day saw Simona Waltert, Panna Udvardy, and No. 7 seed Irina-Camelia Begu reach the final eight. No. 2 seed Jaqueline Cristian will be on court later today against Jana Fett from Croatia.
