Alcaraz Storms into 2025 Italian Open Quarterfinals; Faces Draper
Tuesday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results
Four-time Major winner Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the quarterfinals of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Italy on Tuesday, defeating Karen Khachanov 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in two hours and 29 minutes.
Reaching the quarterfinals or better of every Masters 1000 event in his career, Alcaraz poured in one ace, 41 winners, broke serve on five occasions and won 65 percent of his first serve points.
Improving to 5-0 against Karen Khachanov in lifetime meetings, Alcaraz will next face inform Brit and No. 5 seed Jack Draper in the final eight. Draper also needed three sets to get by tricky Frenchman Corentin Moutet 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Moutet had ousted No. 9 seed Holger Rune in the third round.
Alcaraz and Draper have played on five occasions, with Alcaraz leading 3-2. The pair have never played on a clay-court.
Matches that are still to come on Tuesday will feature top seed Jannik Sinner, No. 6 seed Casper Ruud and No. 9 seed Lorenzo Musetti from Italy.
Wednesday’s action in the Eternal City will see quarterfinal action.
Women’s Quarterfinal Actino
Women’s featured quarterfinal matches on Tuesday will include No. 6 seed Jasmine Paolini taking on No. 13 seed Diana Shnaider, and No. 16 seed Elina Svitolina facing Peyton Stearns from the United States.
Stearns needed a third set tiebreaker to oust Naomi Osaka on Monday.
Wednesday’s schedule in Rome will be highlighted by top seed Aryna Sabalenka taking on No. 8 seed Qinwen Zheng.
Sabalenka has reached five finals this year, winning three titles. Zheng hasn’t won title since claiming her crown in Tokyo, Japan last fall.
