Alcaraz Marches into 2025 Wimbledon Third Round
Wednesday’s Results from Wimbledon
Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz had a much easier time at Wimbledon during his second round encounter on Wednesday, defeating world No. 733 Oliver Tarvet from Great Britain 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.
After spending over four and a half hours to dismiss veteran Italian Fabio Fognini on Monday, Alcaraz required two hours and 17 minutes to reach the third round on Wednesday.
Hitting 38 winners, and breaking serve on six occasions, Alcaraz struck three aces during his victory.
The 22-year-old will next face either No. 25 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime or Jan-Lennard Struff from Germany.
Alcaraz currently has five Major titles to his name and most recently defended his Roland Garros title over world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in Paris last month.
Other winners on the day saw No. 29 seed Brandan Nakashima, Adrian Mannarino and Nicolas Jarry reach the third round.
Upsets on the day featured Cameron Norrie ousting No. 12 seed Frances Tiafoe 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-5.
On Thursday, top seed Sinner, No. 4 seed Jack Draper and No. 6 seed Djokovic will return to action.
Sabalenka Soars into Round of 32
Top seeded Belorussian star Aryna Sabalenka took one step closer to claiming her first Wimbledon title on Wednesday in London, England, defeating Marie Bouzkova from the Czech Republic 7-6(4), 6-4.
Sabalenka hit five aces during her one hour and 35 minute victory. The world No. 1 will next face either Emma Raducanu or former Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova for a place in the round of 16.
Vondrousova recently defeated Sabalenka en-route to her title in Berlin, Germany.
Other winners on Wednesday saw No. 6 seed Madison Keys, Sonay Kartal and Laura Siegemund reach the third round.
Siegemund Upset No. 29 seed Leylah Fernandez on Day 3 by a scoreline of 6-3, 6-2.
On Thursday, No. 2 seed Coco Gauff, No. 7 seed Mirra Andreeva and No. 10 seed Emma Navarro will return for their second round matches.
