Alcaraz, Fritz Reach 2025 Wimbledon Quarterfinals
Sunday’s Results from Wimbledon
Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz stormed into the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships on Sunday, defeating No. 14 seed Andrey Rublev 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
Needing two hours and 43 minutes to prevail, Alcaraz hit 22 aces, 40 winners, won 82 percent of his first serve points and broke his Russian opponent on four occasions.
Improving to 3-1 against Rublev in lifetime meetings, Alcaraz will next face Cameron Norrie for a place in the Wimbledon semifinals.
Norrie needed four hours and 27 minutes to defeat Nicolas Jarry 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-7(7), 6-7(5), 6-3.
Other winners on the day saw No. 5 seed Taylor Fritz, and No. 17 seed Karen Khachanov prevail to the final eight.
Fritz needed only 41 minutes on court when his opponent Jordan Thompson retired with a right thigh injury, trailing 6-1, 3-0.
Fritz will next face Khachanov, who needed three clean-cut sets to dismiss Kamil Majchrzak 6-4, 6-3, 6-2.
Khachanov leads Fritz 2-0 in career head-to-head meetings.
On Monday, top seed Jannik Sinner, No. 6 seed Novak Djokovic and No. 19 seed Grigor Dimitrov will all be in action.

Sabalenka Secures Quarterfinal Birth
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka continued her stellar play at The Championships this year, defeating No. 24 seed Elise Mertens from Belgium 6-4, 7-6(4).
Sabalenka, who had an entertaining straight set victory over Emma Raducanu in the previous round, needed one hour and 35 minutes to dismiss Mertens on Sunday.
The Belarusian hit 36 winners, six aces, broke serve on three occasions and won 84 percent of her first serve points.
Sabalenka’s quest to win her first Wimbledon title will see her face Laura Siegemund from Germany. Siegemund defeated Solana Sierra from Argentina 6-3, 6-2.
Other winners on the day saw Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeat Sonay Kartal 7-6(3), 6-4, and Laura Siegemund upend Solana Sierra 6-3, 6-2.
Monday’s order of play at SW19 will see No. 7 seed Mirra Andreeva, No. 8 seed Iga Swiatek and No. 10 seed Emma Navarro on court.
Navvaro dismissed defending champion Barbora Krejcikova in the previous round. Former winner and No. 11 seed Elena Rybakina was defeated by No. 23 Danish star Clara Tauson on Saturday.
