Alcaraz, Fils Reach Quarterfinals of 2025 Monte Carlo Masters; Ruud Ousted
Thursday’s ATP Tour Results from Monaco
No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz stormed into the quarterfinals of the 2025 Rolex Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco on Thursday, defeating Daniel Altmaier from Germany 6-3, 6-1.
Needing one hour and 26 minutes to prevail, Alcaraz hit 16 winners, won 60 percent of his first serve points and broke his opponent on five occasions.
Improving on his form from the second round, Alcaraz will next face No. 12 seed Arthur Fils for a place in Saturday’s semifinal.
Fils easily dispatched No. 7 seed and former winner Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-3 earlier in the day.
Other winners on the Thursday saw Alexei Popyrin take out last year’s finalist Casper Ruud 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina dismiss No. 5 seed and Indian Wells winner Jack Draper 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-4.
Matches that are still to come on Thursday will include No. 13 seed Lorenzo Musetti, No. 6 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, No. 8 seed Daniil Medvedev and No. 15 seed Grigor Dimitrov.
Dimitrov will face Alejandro Tabilo, who defeated No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday. The Chilean recorded his second straight victory on clay over the Serbian legend.
Fridays’ action in Monaco will feature men’s semifinal action.
