Alcaraz Struggles into Third Round of 2025 Monte Carlo Masters

Wednesday’s action at the 2025 Rolex Monte Carlo Masters in Monaco featured No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz having to work hard to reach the third round, defeating Argentine Francisco Cerundolo 3-6, 6-0, 6-1.
Needing one hour and 39 minutes to prevail, Alcaraz overcame a recent slump in form to produce 19 winners, one ace, broke serve on six occasions and won 68 percent of his first serve points.
Improving to 3-0 against Cerundolo in lifetime meetings, Alcaraz will next face Daniel Altmaier for a place in the quarterfinals.
Alcaraz, who has had a subpar year for his standards, has lost to David Goffin, Jack Draper, Jiri Lehecka and Novak Djokovic in 2025.
Altmaier ended the career Richard Gasquet at the tournament, defeating the Frenchman 7-5, 5-7, 6-2.
Other results on Wednesday included No. 12 seed Arthur Fils, No. 13 seed Lorenzo Musetti, Nuno Borges and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina all reaching the round of 32.
Matches that are still to come on Day 4 will include No. 3 seed Djokovic, No. 4 seed Casper Ruud, No. 7 seed Andrey Rublev, No. 8 seed Alex de Minaur, No. 9 seed Daniil Medvedev and No. 15 seed Grigor Dimitrov.
Top seed Alexander Zverev continued to struggle with his form, losing to Matteo Berrettini 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 on Tuesday.
Thursday’s schedule in Monaco will be highlighted by round of 16 matches.
