Alcaraz and Sinner Set for Exciting Thursday Returns in Tokyo and Beijing

The World No. 1 and World No. 2 are back in Action

World No. 1 and recent US Open winner Carlos Alcaraz returns to the ATP Tour on Thursday in Tokyo, Japan, in search of his eighth title of his year.

Taking on Sebastian Baez from Argentina, Alcaraz will be playing in Japan for the first time. The 22-year-old defeated current world No. 2 Jannik Sinner in last year’s Beijing Open final during the same week.

Other matches on deck on Thursday will include: No. 2 seed Taylor Fritz, No. 3 seed Holger Rune, No. 4 seed Casper Ruud and No. 5 seed Tomas MacHac.

Sinner Back in Beijing

Defending finalist Jannik Sinner will begin his China Open campaign on Thursday in front of a supportive crowd.

The Italian star will be looking to get back in winner’s circle, after two-straight finals losses to Alcaraz in Cincinnati and New York.

Attempting to win his third title of the season, Sinner will face former US Open champion Marin Cilic in his first hurdle. Cilic has played a sparse schedule this year, including only seven tournaments entered. The 36-year-old is currently ranked No. 97 in the world.

Joining Sinner and Cilic on the docket on Thursday will be No. 5 seed Karen Khachanov and Chinese hero Zhizhen Zhang. Khachanov will take on Alexandre Muller and Zhang will face Terence Atmane.

Atmane, who had made the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open, is currently ranked No. 68 in the world.

In the women’s draw, Donna Vekic, Anastasia Potapova and Elena-Gabriela Ruse will be in action.

Top seed Iga Swiatek and No. 2 seed Coco Gauff will be in action later this week. Swiatek recently won the title in Seoul, Korea.
