Sinner, Swiatek, Gauff and Zverev Eye Third-Round Spots at 2025 US Open

Thursday’s previews and results from the 2025 US Open

Thursday’s action at the 2025 US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York will feature world No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner in second round action. The talented Italian will take on former Montreal Masters winner Alexi Popyrin.

Popyrin currently leads the head-to-head series with Sinner at 1-0, but the pair have not played since the 2021 Madrid Open in Spain.

Other matches on the day will include No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev, No. 8 seed Alex de Minuar, No. 10 seed Lorenzo Musetti and No. 14 seed Tommy Paul.

On Wednesday, No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz breezed into the third round of the event, dismissing Mattia Bellucci from Italy in three, easy sets.

Alcaraz, who owns five Major titles, will next face No. 32 seed Luciano Dardari for a place in the sweet 16.

Other players to advance on Wednesday included No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz, No. 6 seed Ben Shelton, No. 7 seed Novak Djokovic, and No. 17 seed Frances Tiafoe.

No. 11 seed Holger Rune and No. 12 seed Casper Ruud weren’t as lucky on Wednesday, both losing in five sets to Jan Lennard Struff and Raphael Collingnon, respectfully.

On Friday, Alcaraz and Djokovic will be back in action on Ashe Stadium.

Swiatek, Gauff Look to Reach Third Round

Reigning Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek, and 2025 Roland Garros Coco Gauff will be in action today at the US Open.

Swiatek will open proceedings on Ashe Stadium against Suzan Lamens, and Gauff will begin the night session against Donna Vekic from Croatia.

Other players in action today will include No. 8 seed Amanda Anisimova, No. 11 seed Karolina Muchova, and four-time Major winner Naomi Osaka.

Osaka will take on Hailey Baptiste from the United States.

Osaka recently made the finals of the Montreal Masters, losing in three sets to Victoria Mboko.
