Sinner, Swiatek, Zverev & Gauff Take Center Stage on Day 3 of the 2025 US Open

Tuesday’s previews and results from the 2025 US Open

Tuesday’s action at the 2025 US Open will feature defending champion Jannik Sinner in his first hurdle of the event, taking on Vit Kopriva from the Czech Republic.

Never playing each other on Tour, Sinner is aiming to reach his fifth straight Major final.

Other matches on the day will be highlighted by No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev, No. 10 seed Lorenzo Musetti, and No. 14 seed Tommy Paul in first round action.

On Monday evening, former winner and world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz returned to Arthur Ashe Stadium sporting a new buzz cut, taking out hard-serving American Reilly Opelka 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. 

Alcaraz will play Mattia Bellucci from Italy in the second round.

Other winners on Monday included No. 5 seed Jack Draper, No. 9 seed Karen Khachanov, No. 11 seed Holger Rune, No. 12 seed Casper Ruud, No. 15 seed Andrey Rublev, and No. 17 seed France Tiafoe.

On Wednesday, No. 6 seed Ben Shelton will return in second round action against two-time former semifinalist Pablo Carreno Busta from Spain.

Swiatek, Gauff Begin US Open Campaigns

Reigning Wimbledon winner Iga Swiatek returns on Tuesday at the US Open in search of her seventh Grand Slam crown. The 24-year-old will take on Emiliana Arango from Colombia in her first match of the event.

Other women’s matches on the day will see No. 2 seed Coco Gauff face Ajla Tomljanovic, No. 8 seed Amanda Anisimova go up against Kimberly Birrell, and two-time former winner Naomi Osaka will take on Greet Minnen from Belgium.

On Monday, No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva, No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina, and No. 15 seed Daria Kasatkina all advanced to the round of 64.

No. 6 seed Madison Keys, No. 22 seed Victoria Mboko, and American legend Venus Williams were all ousted.

Williams was defeated be two-time former semifinalst Karolina Muchova 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.

On Wednesday, top seed Aryna Sabalenka will return to action against Polina Kudermetova from Russia.
