Star Power Shines: Alcaraz, Keys, Draper and Venus Lead Day 2 at the 2025 US Open

Monday’s results from the 2025 US Open

Monday’s action at the 2025 US Open is set to make history again with another all-star lineup.

Former winner and world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz returns to Arthur Ashe Stadium to take on hard-serving American Reilly Opelka.

Alcaraz, who has made the finals of the last seven events that he’s played, will be No. 1 in the world if he wins the US Open.

Alcaraz and Opelka have never played on Tour.

The day session will feature crowd favourite and No. 11 seed Frances Tiafoe taking on Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka.

Tiafoe, who has made the semifinals of the US Open on two occasions, always seems to raise his level when he arrives in New York City.

Other players to watch out for on Monday will include No. 5 seed Jack Draper, No. 9 seed Karen Khachanov, No. 11 seed Holger Rune and No. 12 seed Casper Ruud.

On Sunday, 24-time Major winner Novak Djokovic easily advanced over Learner Tien in straight sets, and will face Zachary Svajda from the United States in the second round.

Other winners on Monday included No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz, No. 6 seed Ben Shelton, No. 16 seed Jakub Mensik, No. 18 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, and No. 21 seed Tomas Machac.

On Tuesday, top seed and defending champion Jannik Sinner will play his first round match against Vit Kopriva.

The Italian star has reached the finals of the last four Majors, and is the overwhelming favourite to win the title again this year.

Other players in action on Tuesday will include No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev, No. 8 seed Alex de Minaur, No. 10 seed Lorenzo Musetti and No. 14 seed Tommy Paul.

Venus and Keys Highlight Day 2

At 45, Venus Williams continues to be one of the most prolific players in the game of tennis. On Monday, the American returns to Ashe Stadium to face No. 11 seed Karolina Muchova in what could be the match of the day.

Reaching the semifinals in New York the last two years, Muchova loves playing on hard courts and will be ready for the power that Venus has to offer.

Williams, currently ranked No. 602 in the world, has won seven Grand Slam titles throughout her illustrious career.

Other matches that will take place on Day 2 will feature No. 6 seed and reigning Australian Open winner Madison Keys, No. 5 seed Mirra Andreeva, No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina and No. 22 seed and Montreal Masters winner Victoria Mboko.

On Sunday, top seed Aryna Sabalenka, No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula, former winner Emma Raducanu, No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini, No. 10 seed Emma Navarro and Filipino star Alexandra Eala all advanced to the second round.

Eala upset No. 14 seed and inform Dane Clara Tauson 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(11).

Eala, who has gained world-wide fans with her electric brand of tennis this year, will next face either Cristina Bucsa or Claire Liu from the United States.

On Tuesday, No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff, No. 8 seed Amanda Anisimova, and No. 23 seed Naomi Osaka will be in action.

Osaka is a two-time former winner in New York.
