Cincinnati Open 2025 Quarterfinal Preview: Alcaraz, Zverev, Sabalenka and Swiatek Return
Friday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results and Previews from Cincinnati
On Friday, quarterfinal action at the Cincinnati Open in Mason, Ohio will feature No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz taking on No. 9 seed Andrey Rublev in a great baseline duel under the lights.
Alcaraz, who leads Rublev 3-1 in career head-to-head meetings, has lost one set in his first, three matches.
Rublev, who will be aiming to win his third Masters 1000 event this week, has also lost one set during the event.
The day’s second quarterfinal encounter will feature No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev facing No. 5 seed and National Bank Open winner Ben Shelton. Zverev leads Shelton 3-0 in career head-to-head meetings, and has defeated the American on every professional surface.
Shelton recently won his first Masters 1000 event in Toronto, Canada. Zverev captured the title in Cincinnati in 2021.
On Thursday, top seed Jannik Sinner easily dispatched No. 23 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets, and will next face Terence Atmane for a place in the finals.
Atmane continued his dream run at the tournament by dismissing No. 7 seed Holger Rune 6-2, 6-3. Atmane had defeated No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz in three sets in the fourth round. The 23-year-old Frenchman will move up to No. 69 in the world after the tournament.
Women’s Quarterfinal Line Up
Friday’s quarterfinal matches at the Cincinnati Open will feature top seed Aryna Sabalenka facing No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina, No. 2 seed Coco Gauff taking on No. 7 seed Jasmine Paolini, No. 3 seed Iga Swiatek going up against No. 29 seed Kalinskaya, and Varvara Gracheva versus Veronika Kudermetova.
Sabalenka leads Rybakina 7-4 in career head-to-head matches, and has defeated her opponent on two occasions this year.
The Belorussian hasn’t won a Major in 2025 and will be the defending champion of the US Open in two week’s time. Rybakina captured the 2022 Wimbledon title as her lone Grand Slam crown to date.
Reigning Wimbledon winner Swiatek will look to win her first match against Kalinskaya, and Gauff will end the day’s matches by facing Paolini for the fifth time. Both players have won two previous matches.
Kudermetova will take a 2-0 series lead against Gracheva in the final quarterfinal clash of the day.
