Griekspoor Continues Momentum into Indian Wells Quarterfinals; Swiatek Advances
Tuesday’s action at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, California featured Tallon Griekspoor reaching the quarterfinals, defeating Yosuke Watanuki from Japan 7-6(4), 6-1.
Needing one hour and 27 minutes to advance, Griekspoor hit 14 winners, three aces, won 81 percent of his first serve points and broke serve on two occasions.
Griekspoor, who defeated top seed Alexander Zverev earlier in the event, will next face No. 8 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas or No. 12 seed Holger Rune.
Other matches that are still to come on Tuesday will include No. 5 seed Daniil Medvedev facing fan-favourite and No. 10 seed Tommy Paul, and No. 20 seed Arthur Fils taking on Marcus Giron.
Wednesday’s action in Palm Springs will be highlighted by No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz against No. 12 Grigor Dimitrov, No. 3 seed Taylor Fritz facing No. 13 seed Jack Draper and an All-American affair between No. 11 Ben Shelton taking on No. 32 seed Brandon Nakashima.
Swiatek Cruises into Fourth Round
Defending champion and No. 2 seed Iga Swiatek continued her quest for a title defence in Indian Wells, California on Tuesday, dismissing No. 15 Karolina Muchova 6-1, 6-1.
Swiatek, who loves the slow, high-kicking conditions in Palm Springs, won 88 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on five occasions.
The Polish star will next face No. 8 seed Qinwen Zheng or No. 18 seed Marta Kostyuk.
Other great matches that are still to come today will include No. 7 seed Elena Rybakina taking on No. 9 seed Mirra Andreeva, and No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula going up against No. 23 seed Elina Svitolina.
On Wednesday, fourth-round matches that will take place will feature top seed Aryna Sabalenka back in action to face Sonay Kartal from Great Britain, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff taking on Belinda Bencic, No. 5 seed Madison Keys versus No. 19 seed Donna Vekic, and No. 6 seed Jasmine Paolini going up against No. 24 seed Liudmila Samsonova,
