Zverev, Rune, Gauff and Mboko Return to Day 5 Action at 2025 National Bank Open
Thursday’s ATP Tour and WTA Results and Previews from Toronto and Montreal
Thursday’s action and the National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada will see the return of top seed Alexander Zverev in third-round play.
The German, who has struggled with his confidence since losing the Australian Open final to Jannik Sinner in January, will take on tricky Italian Matteo Arnaldi for a place in the round of 16.
Arnaldi, who is currently ranked No. 41 in the world, has wins over Novak Djokovic, Andrey Rublev, Frances Tiafoe, and Felix Auger-Aliassime in 2025.
Other matches of interest on Thursday will feature No. 3 seed Lorenzo Musetti, No. 5 seed Holger Rune, No. 8 seed Casper Ruud and No. 10 seed Daniil Medvedev on court.
Musetti will face No. 26 seed Alex Michelsen, Rune takes on No. 29 seed Alexandre Muller, Ruud goes up against No. 30 seed Nuno Borges and former winner Medvedev will play his third round match against defending champion and No. 18 seed Alexi Popyrin.
Medvedev leads Popyrin 4-1 in career head-to-head meetings.
Gauff and Mboko Featured in Montreal
Top seed Coco Gauff continues her bid to capture the National Bank Open in Montreal on Thursday, taking on Veronika Kudermetova from Russia in round of 32 action.
The reigning French Open winner is back on hard-courts this week and will be eager to find her form ahead of next month’s US Open.
Canadian fans have a lot to look forward to with 18-year-old phenom Victoria Mboko. Mboko continues to climb the rankings and is currently sits at No. 73 in the world.
Mboko, who dismissed No. 23 seed and former Australian Open winner Sofia Kenin in the second round, will face Maria Bouzkova from the Czech Republic later on Thursday.
Other key matches to watch out for today will include No. 4 seed Mirra Andreeva facing No. 28 seed McCartney Kessler, No. 8 seed Emma Navarro going up against Dayana Yastremska, and No. 9 seed Elena Rybakina taking on Jaqueline Cristian from Romania.
On Wednesday evening, Canadian favourite Genie Bouchard ended her career with a respectable three set defeat to No. 17 seed Belinda Bencic.
Reaching the Wimbledon final in 2014, Bouchard hit a career high ranking of No. 5 in the world. She collected one tour win during her career and also reached the semifinals of the Australian and French Opens.
