The Top Wimbledon Tennis Players

All of the greatest players in the history of tennis have won a title at Wimbledon and recent history suggests that you need to be on the ball and at the top of your game if you want to be the victor on the infamous grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

The competition is tight and wide open to take the winning trophy at The Wimbledon in 2019. In recent years, the top players that have won the Men’s Singles are Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic whilst Serena Williams, Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber and Garbine Muguruza have held up the Ladies Singles trophy at The Wimbledon Championships.

There are other players to watch this year at the Wimbledon event, which includes young up-and-comers and well-known veterans.

The dominant players of the last decade in the men’s, Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic, are the front – runners to lift another men’s singles trophy. With the ‘Big 3’ sharing the last 10 Grand Slam singles tournaments equally between them.

Of the three, Federer is probably the least likely to succeed due to his age. However, Federer is indisputably the best grass court player that has ever played the game of tennis and he will be want to prove one more time that he is still an indispensable player to beat at the Wimbledon.

Nadal has only had two wins at Wimbledon so a victory this year will be a bit of a surprise as the last time he won Wimbledon was nearly a decade ago in 2010.

That leaves Djokovic as the most favoured to take the Championship this year. He has won 3 of the last 4 Grand Slam’s and is the reigning Champion at Wimbledon and is the World no.1 by a long way.

The group of young stars who are the other potential winners and that will be seeded this year include Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Dominic Thiem. These are the three next big players that have a chance of overtaking the reigns from the likes of Federer, Djokovic or Nadal.

In the women’s tournament it’s wide open with not one two-time winner at the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament. The current World No.1, Naomi Osaka, hasn’t ever won more than two matches at Wimbledon so her amazing results at winning both the US Open and Australian Open in succession will have to be repeated if she’s to win a third Grand Slam.

The recent French Open winner and Australian favourite Ashleigh Barty has quite possibly some of the best tools for victory at Wimbledon but her best result at Wimbledon Tennis Club has been the third round, so it is questionable if she will reach deep and lift the trophy at the Championships.

Angelique Kerber who is the reigning champion hasn’t had a great run this season and her ranking has dropped to No.6 but will her ability to stay in the rally and experience help her to triumph again?

Last years conquered finalist of the Ladies Singles at Wimbledon, Serena Williams, is quite possibly the greatest female tennis player of all time. She has excelled on the grass in the past and has 7 titles to her name. Serena hasn’t been playing much these days but anybody who wants to write her off is taking a huge risk because her serve alone is enough of a weapon to see the powerful American go deep at Wimbledon this year.
