World No. 1 and former French Open winner Iga Swiatek advanced the finals on Thursday after dismissing Daria Kasatkina 6-2, 6-1. Pouring in another world-class performance, Swiatek hit one ace, won 79 percent of her first serve points and broke serve on five occasions.
Winning her 34th straight match on Tour, Swiatek will next face youngster Coco Gauff on Saturday. Gauff dispatch crafty Italian Martina Trevisan 6-3, 6-1.
Long touted as the future of women’s tennis, Gauff will be appearing in her first career Major final.
Friday’s action at Roland Garros will feature the men’s semifinals. Rafael Nadal will take on Alexander Zverev, while Casper Ruud will look to make his first career Major final against Marin Cilic.
Nadal continues his quest to capture his 14th career major at the French Open, and 22nd overall. Cilic, who has previously won the US Open, will be looking to complete the impressive feat of reaching all four Major finals if he is to advance. Zverev has previously played in a Grand Slam in New York, losing to Dominic Thiem in 2020.
