Six Canadians to Compete in Main Draws of 2025 Wimbledon Championships

Fernandez, Shapovalov, Auger-Aliassime and Dabrowski among the seeds; Branstine and Diallo keep rising through the ranks

[MONTREAL, QC] June 27, 2025 – The official Wimbledon 2025 draws were held today, with six Canadians set to compete on the prestigious grass courts of the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Leylah Annie Fernandez (Laval, QC), Carson Branstine (Montréal, QC), Denis Shapovalov (Richmond Hill, ON), Félix Auger-Aliassime (Montréal, QC) and Gabriel Diallo (Montréal, QC) will all battle in the singles draws.

Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa, ON) and her partner Erin Routliffe of New Zealand are the second seeds in the women’s doubles draw. Fernandez and Diallo are also in the doubles events with their respective partners Lulu Sun of New Zealand and Zizou Bergs of Belgium.

Seeded no.29, Fernandez arrives in London fresh off her quarterfinal appearance in Nottingham (WTA 250) last week. In the opening round, she faces wild card Hannah Klugman of Great Britain. A win could set her up for a clash with Paula Badosa of Spain in the fourth-round or Qinwen Zheng of China in the semifinals. The 2025 tournament marks the Canadian’s fourth appearance in the Wimbledon main draw. On her last two tries, she was sent home in the second round.

Thanks to three impressive wins in the qualifying event including victories over fellow Canadian Bianca Andreescu and recent Roland-Garros semifinalist Loïs Boisson, Branstine will make her debut in the main draw of a Grand Slam. In the first round, she goes head-to-head against World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka. If she manages to clinch the upset, she could run into Madison Keys in the quarterfinals. Ranked No.197, Carson Branstine got her grass season off to a very strong start, qualifying for the main draw in ‘s- Hertogenbosch (WTA 250) and posting a win over No.19 Liudmila Samsonova.

Dabrowski and Routliffe will take on Xinyu Wang and Saisai Zheng of China in their first-round duel. The team is back in action after a quick pause for Dabrowski, who was out nursing an injury. The Canadian and New Zealander were finalists at Wimbledon 2024 and went on to win the WTA Finals doubles competition, making Dabrowski the first Canadian to claim the title. In 2025, the pair has remained in strong form. They reached the semifinals of the Australian Open and raised the winners’ trophies in Stuttgart (WTA 500).

Auger-Aliassime (25) arrives at the All-England Club after two strong performances on grass: a semifinal in Stuttgart and a solid run in Mallorca (ATP 250), where he is competing in the semifinals today. In the first round in London, he takes on James Duckworth of Australia with potential matchups looming against Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in the third round and Holger Rune of Denmark in the quarterfinals. The Montrealer will be looking to surpass his best Wimbledon result, a quarterfinals berth in 2021.

Shapovalov (27) plays his first match against Mariano Navone of Argentina. The Canadian lefty got as far as the third-round last year and will be focused on channeling the form that powered him to the Wimbledon 2021 semifinals—his best Grand Slam result. This season, he secured the title in Dallas (ATP 500) and reached the semifinals in Acapulco (ATP 500). His potential opponents include Jannik Sinner (1) of Italy in round 3 and Novak Djokovic or Britain’s Jack Draper in the semifinals.

Fresh off his title win in ‘s-Hertogenbosch (ATP 250), Diallo is enjoying a career-high ranking of World No. 41 and building on strong momentum after his quarterfinal appearance in Mallorca this week. He makes his Wimbledon main draw debut after falling in the qualifying events in 2023 and 2024. He begins his campaign against Daniel Altmaier of Germany in the first round and could run into Taylor Fritz in the second round and Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals.
