The 23-year-old improved to 3-4 against Zverev in lifetime meeting and now owns three Major titles. Sinner remains the reigning champion of the two hard-court Majors in tennis, at the US Open and in Australia.
Zverev, who desperately wanted to win his first-ever Major, fell to 0-3 in championship matches. The 27-year-old lost in the finals of the 2020 US Open in Dominic Thiem and the 2024 French Open to Carlos Alcaraz.
The German did hit 12 aces, but also had 20 more unforced errors than winners against the Italian (45-25).
When Monday’s rankings are released, Sinner will remain world No. 1 with 11830 points and Zverev will have a solid 1000 point lead over world No. 3 Alcaraz with 8135 points to 7010.
