Sinner, Swiatek Reach Third Round of 2025 Australian Open
Thursday’s action at the Australian Open featured top seed Jannik Sinner reach the third round, defeating Tristan Schoolkate from Australia 6-4, 6-4, 6-1, 6-3.
The defending champion hit 14 aces, won 76 percent of his first serve points and broke serve five times during the two hour and 46 minute encounter.

Sinner will next face Marcos Giron for a place in the sweet 16. Giron needed five sets to dismiss Tomas Martin Etcheverry 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.
Other winners on the day included No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz, No. 8 seed Alex de Minuar, No. 13 seed Holger Rune, No. 16 seed Lorenzo Musetti, No. 19 seed Karen Khachanov, No. 21 seed Ben Shelton, and No. 31 seed Francisco Cerundolo.
No. 17 seed Frances Tiafoe, No. 18 seed Hubert Hurkacz and up-and-coming Brazilian sensation Joao Fonseca were all defeated.
Fonseca lost in five sets to talented Italian Lorenzo Sonego, 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Friday’s schedule in Melbourne will feature No. 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz, No. 7 seed Novak Djokovic and No. 15 seed Jack Draper.
Swiatek Rolls into Round Three
Five-time Major winner Iga Swiatek advanced to the third-round of the Aussie Open on Thursday, defeating Rebecca Sramkova 6-0, 6-2.
Needing exactly one hour to advance, Swiatek struck two aces, won 83 percent of her first serve points and broke her Slovakian opponent on five occasions.
Hitting 16 winners in total, Swiatek will next face Emma Raducanu for a place in the fourth-round.

The former US Open winner reached third-round in Melbourne for the first time, defeating American Amanda Anisamova 6-3, 7-5.

Three-time Major finalist Ons Jabeur also made the third-round, dispatching Camila Osorio 7-5, 6-3.
Friday’s order of play Down Under will see top seed Aryna Sabalenka, No. 3 seed Coco Gauff and No. 7 seed Jessica Pegula all on court.
