Wednesday’s action at the US Open featured newly crowned world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka upending talented youngster No. 23 seed Qinwen Zheng to reach the semifinals. Recording a 6-1, 6-4 victory, Sabalenka will next face No. 17 seed Madison Keys. Keys dismissed No. 10 seed Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets.
Elsewhere, former champion and No. 3 seed Daniil Medvedev defeated his good friend and No. 8 seed Andrey Rublev in three sets. Played under extremely hot and humid conditions, Medvedev needed two hours and 48 minutes to advance. The 2021 winner will next face either top seed Carlos Alcaraz or No. 12 seed Alexander Zverev.
Thursday’s schedule in Flushing Meadows will highlight the women’s semifinals.
