Pro Tennis Returns to Vermont this August

Pro Tennis Returns to Vermont August 22nd-24th
We’ve done it. Pro tennis is returning to Vermont!

STOWE, VT — Professional tennis returns to Vermont this summer thanks to Grand Slam Tennis Tours. The Stowe-based company who was responsible for bringing the Fed Cup to Stowe in 2007, has partnered with Mountainside community, Spruce Peak and Stowe Mountain Lodge, to host the 6-player exhibition event at Spruce Peak Stadium this August 22nd-24th.

The Stowe Mountain Lodge Classic will serve as a warm-up to the US Open held in NY the following week and give the American tennis calendar an exciting late-August event. The Stowe Mountain Lodge Classic confirmed players are World #22 Albert Ramos-Viñolas, teen sensation Frances Tiafoe, former World #2 Tommy Haas, American ATP NextGen player Reilly Opelka, Frenchman Jeremy Chardy, #2 Canadian Vasek Pospisil, and American NextGen player Jared Donaldson.

Globally, the Stowe Mountain Lodge Classic will join the Kooyong Classic and The Boodles as signature tournaments attended by top pros looking for competitive matches right before the year’s biggest tennis events.

“This tournament inserts Stowe into the conversation of the summer tennis season here in the US and it continues the rich heritage of pro tennis in Vermont,” explained Andrew Chmura, president of Grand Slam Tennis Tours. “Stowe Mountain Lodge and Spruce Peak allow us to create one of the most beautiful tennis venues in the world, and it helps us present attendees with a tennis experience unlike any other. Ever since we hosted the 2007 Fed Cup, we’ve been working to have pro tennis return to Stowe. Now it’s coming.”

This year, the newly-designed Spruce Peak Stadium, located at the base of Spruce Peak, will have a capacity of nearly 2,800. The event will offer three tiers of ticketing: Courtside, Category 1 and Category 2. Courtside seats and certain Category 1 seating will provide guests access to the Spruce Peak Viewing Lounge, an elevated hospitality space above the court where guests can grab a drink, have a snack and still watch the tennis, all framed by the stunning backdrop of Mt. Mansfield.

The 2007 Fed Cup semi-final between the USA and Russia was organized by Chmura and Grand Slam Tennis Tours, and brought Venus Williams, Elena Vesnina and others in front of a sold-out tennis stadium of 4,200 in Vermont.

For Title Sponsor Stowe Mountain Lodge, the tournament creates an opportunity to engage with the biggest summer sporting event in Vermont and provides a platform to showcase the beautiful properties of Spruce Peak at Stowe. The ATP pro players will stay in rooms at the Stowe Mountain Lodge, use the facilities of the Stowe Mountain Club at Spruce Peak, and crush 140mph serves on Center Court at Spruce Peak Stadium.

“We are thrilled to host the Stowe Mountain Lodge Classic here at Spruce Peak,” states Sam Gaines, President of Spruce Peak at Stowe, “We can’t wait to introduce tennis fans around the world to our community, including the luxurious Stowe Mountain Lodge and Spa, the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center, and all of the retail and dining throughout our village center.”

Stay-and-watch travel packages and tennis camp experiences are on sale now at www.stowetennis.com, and individual tickets go on sale July 17th at 10am. You can purchase packages online or by phone at (802) 549-4658. Each ticket is valid for a full day’s worth of tennis, and the venue allows re-entry, so attendees will be free to explore the Adventure Center at Stowe, head into town and grab a bite at Idletyme Brewery – the Official Idle Zone of the tournament, or relax in the Spruce Peak Viewing Lounge between matches.

The Stowe Mountain Lodge Classic is hosted at Spruce Peak and is a Grand Slam Tennis Tours production.
