Netherlands Reaches First Davis Cup Final with Victory Over Germany
The Dutch Team will face Italy or Australia on Sunday
Malaga, Spain—Friday’s schedule of play at the Davis Cup final in Malaga, Spain featured Team Netherlands reaching Sunday’s final with a 2-0 victory over Germany.
First up, Botic van de Zandschulp continued his stellar play at this year’s event by defeating Daniel Altmaier 6-4, 6-7(12), 6-3 in two hours and 39 minutes.
Using his pin-point serve and slingshot groundstrokes, van de Zandschulp converted seven of nine break points, hit four aces, and won 67 percent of his first serve points.
The 29-year-old, who is currently ranked No. 80 in the world, has had an interesting year on Tour.
Only recording 16 victories throughout the season, van de Zandschulp has impressive victories over Carlos Alcaraz (US Open), Denis Shapovalov (US Open) and over Rafael Nadal in his final professional match earlier this week.
The day’s second match featured Tallon Griekspoor getting the better of Jan-Lennard Struff 6-7(4), 7-5, 6-4.
Using his athletic game to great effect, Griekspoor hit 25 aces, broke serve on two occasions and won 67 of his second serve points.
The victory sees the Netherlands reach their first-ever final. The Dutch team has been playing in the Davis Cup since 1920 and reached the semifinals once in 2001.
The Dutch team will eagerly await either Italy or Australia in Sunday’s Final.
Sinner Looks to Lead Italy in Davis Cup Glory
The best player on the planet—Jannik Sinner—will look to cap off an incredible season this weekend in Malaga, Spain.
Winning eight titles this year, Sinner has far-and-away been the best player in 2024. Winning two Majors, three Masters 1000 events and the ATP Finals, Sinner has also secured two victories this week in singles and in doubles.

Team Australia, who have a rich history in the competition, will be looking to capture their 29 title this weekend.
Led by top 10 player Alex de Minaur, the Australian’s defeated the United States 2-1 on Thursday.
National Bank Open winner Alexei Popyrin, Jordan Thompson, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Matthew Ebden will join de Minaur in the formidable task of upsetting Italy on Saturday.
