Wimbledon—London, England

No. 4 seed Andy Murray overcame big serving Croatian Ivo Karlovic at Wimbledon on Thursday, prevailing 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2, 7-6(4) to reach the third-round.

Surviving 17 aces by his opponent, Murray dropped 11 aces of his own and won 85 percent of his first points during the three hour and eight minute encounter. Losing in the semifinals the past three years, Murray will continue his quest to become the first British player since Fred Perry in 1936 to capture the event when he next face Marcos Baghdatis. The Cypriot advanced over Grigor Dimitrov after the Bulgarian retired after trailing 7-5, 4-1.

Elsewhere, three-time former finalist Andy Roddick won his seventh match in a row after dismissing Bjorn Phau 6-3, 7-6(1), 6-3. Roddick, who won the Eastbourne event last week, will next face David Ferrer, who is also on a seventh match winning streak. Ferrer topped Kenny De Schepper, 7-6(1), 6-2, 6-4.

Comeback player of the year Brian Baker continued his fairytale tournament by destroying Jarkko Nieminen 6-0, 6-2, 6-4. Baker, who returned to action after years of being sidelined, will next face Benoit Paire. The lanky Frenchman ousted Alexandr Dolgopolov, 7-6(2), 6-4, 6-4.

In other matches that were completed on Thursday, David Goffin, Kei Nishikori, Marin Cilic and Philipp Kohlschreiber all prevailed.
